In general, therapy is for mental health treatment, like for PTSD, OCD, grief, depression, anxiety, etc.
Coaching is for behavioral change, like learning how to increase success with task delegation, reduce procrastination, or communicate difficult messages with your team.
Therapy can include elements of coaching. For example, if you're a therapy client who is having trouble with procrastination, we can incorporate coaching elements to support you as needed.
Coaching, however, is boundaried to behavioral work concerns. Coaching cannot expand into therapy.
If you aren't sure if therapy or coaching is right for you, we can think it through together on a free 15-minute consultation call, which is the first step for both therapy and coaching clients. After the consultation call, you will then schedule your intake appointment as either a therapy client or coaching client.

Coaching often involves about six to twelve 50-minute individual sessions.
The first few coaching sessions are evaluative, with behavioral change usually beginning in the very first session.
The middle few sessions involve behavioral practice and troubleshooting.
The final few sessions involve consolidating gains and making plans for long-term success.
Sometimes clients return for 25-min booster sessions as needed, for a tune-up or support with a new or uniquely challenging issue.

It depends!
Some evidence-based treatments have specific timelines. For example, some trauma treatment interventions are 5-6 sessions long; others are 12-16 sessions long. Many DBT programs involve one year of treatment.
Some clients want to be in-and-out of therapy; if so, we can elect treatment options that address your needs and are shorter in duration. Meanwhile, some clients are looking for a longer-term supportive therapist. We will discuss the treatment time frame that makes the most sense for you in our initial appointments, and ongoing as needed.
Please note that I only see sliding scale patients for time-limited treatment.

I am particularly effective at getting clients off a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) or, preferably, supporting them in not getting on one in the first place.
I work with all ranges of roles, from assistants to executives.
If you're on a PIP or nearing one, contact me for a free 15-min consultation, where we can determine whether therapy or coaching may be the right next step for you.

I offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation for all new coaching and therapy clients.
My rates are similar to other doctoral-level clinicians offering psychotherapy in the California Bay Area.
My coaching and therapy fees are the same; a 50-minute coaching session is the same as a 50-minute therapy session.
-
No, I only see clients for either coaching or therapy.

If you don't know what those acronyms or treatments are, that's totally normal and okay! You'll learn what they mean as we explore relevant ones together, and you're always welcome to ask me questions about the evidence-based practices I offer in a consult or session.

I am not in network with any insurance providers, which means you must pay the full fee at each appointment. However, I can give you a superbill at the end of each session that you can submit for partial out-of-network reimbursement.
If you would like to know more about reimbursement, I recommend calling the number on your insurance card and inquiring about whether you have out-of-network outpatient mental health coverage.

You are able to cancel sessions up to 24 hours in advance of your appointment. If the notification comes within 24 hours of the appointment, I charge a late cancel/no-show fee, which is the appointment price.
